Job Description
GlobalFoundries seeks a motivated and technically proficient student or recent graduate for an internship position within our IT Data Engineering and Analytics team. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to explore the synergy between data governance and data engineering, emphasizing programming, metadata automation, and the integration of cloud-based data sources, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS).
We are seeking an enthusiastic and technically inclined college student or recent graduate to join our IT Data Engineering and Analytics team as an intern. This position is ideally suited for individuals with a strong interest in the intersection of data governance and data engineering, with a particular focus on programming, automating metadata processes, and integrating cloud data sources (AWS).

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement scripts and programs to automate metadata collection for data catalogs and data lineage tracking initiatives.
- Design and integrate Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to extract metadata from cloud platforms, including AWS and Azure.
- Support the ingestion of metadata into data governance platforms such as Collibra and Alation.
- Contribute to the development of connectors or services that facilitate metadata and governance automation.
- Participate in the creation of tools and dashboards to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to data governance.
- Create comprehensive documentation of technical processes and contribute to the maintenance of internal knowledge bases.
- Collaborate closely with data stewards, data architects, and data engineering teams to extract, transform, and load metadata using custom connectors and APIs.
- Develop and maintain data lineage models, ensuring the accurate and complete traceability of data across various systems.
- Perform the cataloging of enterprise data assets, focusing on enhancing metadata enrichment and data classification.
- Assist in the onboarding of new data sources and contribute to the development and execution of the enterprise metadata strategy and roadmap.
- Document integration patterns, data flow diagrams, and metadata models to ensure compliance with audit requirements and regulations.
- Monitor and maintain the quality and accuracy of metadata, supporting automated data discovery and profiling efforts.
- Collaborate with various teams to classify data, maintain data definitions, identify critical and sensitive data for core capabilities, support data sourcing and usage requests, provide resources for resolving data-related issues, and promote consistency, standardization, usability, and change management across data products and capabilities.
- Address data management business requirements as needed.
Qualifications
- Must be a final-year student or a recent graduate with a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated understanding of REST APIs and practical experience in consuming or building API integrations.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
- Proficiency in programming, specifically with Python or Java, for metadata integration scripting.
- Basic knowledge of database technologies (SQL/NoSQL) and data structures.
