Job Description

As a Software Engineer specializing in Resilience Engineering, you will be integral in maintaining the availability, observability, reliability, security, and performance of Nike’s digital platforms. This role requires a proactive approach to managing robust, consumer-facing systems that support a vast global user base.

Within this capacity, your primary focus will be on conducting detailed problem analysis, identifying infrastructure and code-level vulnerabilities, implementing observability mechanisms for essential Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and collaborating closely with product delivery teams to develop sustainable solutions for production challenges. Your expertise will be crucial in advancing Nike’s commitment to delivering seamless and resilient digital experiences for its customers.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, diagnose, and promptly resolve production issues with precision to minimize service disruptions and maintain optimal system performance.
• Develop and implement real-time monitoring solutions that provide critical insights into system health and vital key performance indicators.
• Clearly communicate technical issues and their potential business ramifications, ensuring alignment across teams and the implementation of effective response strategies.
• Report high-value metrics and insights to leadership, demonstrating the tangible impact of site reliability on consumer experience and overarching business objectives.
• Manage IT service processes, including Incident, Problem, Change, and Knowledge Management, to uphold consistent service quality and reliability.
• Collaborate closely with both business and technical teams to thoroughly analyze system performance, troubleshoot consumer-reported issues, and proactively optimize system efficiency.
• Spearhead initiatives to enhance application reliability for high-traffic consumer web and mobile platforms, ensuring consistent performance under peak demand.
• Leverage negotiation and influence to foster consensus and drive collaborative solutions across diverse teams.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement by providing coaching, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to enhance overall team resilience.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline.
• Alternatively, candidates with one to three years of relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and developing applications utilizing Java, Node.js, or comparable programming languages.
• Familiarity with front-end frameworks, such as React or Angular, is highly desirable.
• Experience with modern programming languages, including Scala, Python, or Golang, is preferred.
• A comprehensive understanding of DNS, networking principles, virtualization technologies, and Linux operating systems.
• Proven expertise in building and managing scalable, cloud-based microservices architectures, ideally within the AWS environment.
• Practical experience with Docker or serverless architecture paradigms.
• Proficiency in at least one NoSQL database system, such as DynamoDB or Cassandra.
• A strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
• Familiarity with service management, agile methodologies, and observability tools, including ServiceNow, Jira, Jenkins, Splunk, New Relic, and SignalFX.
