R&D – Product Support Engineering – Apprentice – Job Description

Alcon is seeking an R&D – Product Support Engineering – Apprentice in Bangalore, India. This full-time, early-career opportunity is designed for fresh engineering graduates to gain practical experience in ophthalmic medical devices within a regulated environment. The apprentice will support the Product Support Engineering team, contributing to both New Product Development and sustaining engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Product Support Engineers with daily engineering and sustaining tasks for ophthalmic medical devices.
• Prepare and manage essential engineering documentation, including change records and technical reports.
• Support design control processes by maintaining requirements traceability and updating risk documentation.
• Participate in engineering change order (ECO) processes under senior guidance.
• Aid in the analysis of field issues and complaints by collecting and documenting relevant data.
• Review technical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and component information under supervision.
• Adhere to quality system and regulatory requirements for medical device development.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory departments.
• Gain understanding of product lifecycle management and medical device industry standards.
• Follow established engineering best practices in all assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed a BE/BTech degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Possess a foundational understanding of core engineering principles.
• Demonstrate a strong eagerness to learn and adapt within a regulated medical device setting.
• Exhibit proficient written and verbal communication abilities.
• Awareness of product development lifecycles and quality management processes is advantageous.
• Basic proficiency with productivity tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
