JOB DESCRIPTION:
Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Northern Railway has released Northern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026 notification for the engagement of 4,651 Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Eligible candidates who have completed 10th class with a minimum of 50% marks and ITI in the relevant trade can apply online.
The recruitment offers apprenticeship training opportunities in various railway divisions, units and workshops across Northern Railway. Interested candidates should check the trade-wise vacancies, eligibility criteria and application instructions before submitting their applications.
1. Roles and Training Vacancies
Northern Railway has announced a total of 4,651 Act Apprentice training slots for the 2026–27 training year.
The available trades include:
– Fitter
– Electrician
– Welder (Gas & Electric)
– Mechanic Diesel
– Machinist
– Turner
– Carpenter
– Painter General
– Electronics Mechanic
– Wireman
– Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic
– Mechanic Motor Vehicle
– Stenographer (English)
– Stenographer (Hindi)
– Data Entry Operator
– Computer Operator and Programming Assistant
– Blacksmith
– Mason (Building Constructor)
– Other notified technical and workshop tradesTraining slots are distributed across different Northern Railway clusters, divisions, units and workshops. Candidates must select a cluster and unit where training slots are available for their ITI trade.
The detailed trade-wise and unit-wise vacancy distribution is provided in Annexure A of the official notification. The notified training slots are provisional and may change according to administrative requirements.

Selected candidates will undergo practical apprenticeship training in their respective trades at the designated Northern Railway divisions, units and workshops.
Fitter: Training related to fitting, assembling, maintaining and repairing mechanical components and equipment.
Electrician: Practical training in electrical equipment, wiring, electrical installations and maintenance activities.
Welder: Training in gas and electric welding techniques and metal fabrication work.
Mechanic Diesel: Training related to diesel engines, mechanical systems, inspection and maintenance.
Machinist and Turner: Practical training in operating machine tools, shaping metal components and precision machining.
Carpenter: Training in woodworking, fabrication and repair of wooden components.
Painter General: Training in surface preparation, painting and finishing activities.
Electronics Mechanic: Training in electronic equipment, components, testing and maintenance.
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic: Training in installation, servicing and maintenance of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
Stenographer and Data Entry Operator: Training in office documentation, typing, data entry and administrative support activities.
The exact training activities will depend on the allotted trade and railway unit.
Important: This is an apprenticeship training opportunity, not a direct permanent railway job. Completion of apprenticeship does not guarantee employment in Northern Railway.

4. Application Fee
– General / OBC / EWS candidates: ₹100
– SC candidates: No application fee
– ST candidates: No application fee
– PwBD candidates: No application fee
– Women candidates: No application fee
The application fee must be paid online during the application process. The application fee is non-refundable.
Education Required:
Candidates must fulfil the following educational requirements:
– Must have passed 10th class / SSC / Matriculation or equivalent under the 10+2 examination system.
– Must have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the 10th examination.
– Must have passed ITI in the relevant trade.
– The ITI certificate must be issued by an NCVT/SCVT-recognised institution.Candidates whose 10th or ITI results were awaited on the notification date, 6 November 2026, are not eligible to apply.
Age Limit
– Minimum Age: 15 years
– Maximum Age: 24 yearsThe age limit will be calculated as on 11 December 2026.
Age Relaxation
– SC/ST candidates: 5 years
– OBC candidates: 3 years
– PwBD candidates: 10 years
– Ex-Servicemen: Relaxation as per the conditions mentioned in the official notification.Candidates claiming reservation or age relaxation must produce the relevant certificates during document verification.

The selection of candidates for Northern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026 will be based on merit.There will be no written examination and no viva/interview.
The selection process includes:
1. Screening and scrutiny of online applications.
2. Preparation of merit based on 10th and ITI examination marks.
3. Document verification.
4. Medical fitness verification.
5. Final engagement for apprenticeship training.Merit Calculation
The merit list will be prepared by calculating the average percentage of marks obtained in:
– 10th Class / Matriculation examination
– ITI examinationBoth qualifications will receive equal weightage.
For example, if a candidate obtains 80% in 10th class and 90% in ITI, the merit percentage will be 85%.
In case two candidates secure equal marks, the older candidate will be given preference. If their dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed the 10th examination earlier will be preferred.
The final merit list will be prepared cluster-wise, trade-wise and community-wise.
7. How to Apply Online
Eligible candidates can apply online through the official Railway Recruitment Cell, Northern Railway website.

2. Open the link titled “Engagement of Act Apprentice”.
3. Read the official recruitment notification carefully.
4. Complete candidate registration by entering your name, father’s name, community, category, mobile number, email ID and date of birth.
5. Log in using the registration credentials.
6. Fill in the online application form with the required personal and educational details.
7. Select the appropriate cluster, unit and trade according to your ITI qualification and available training slots.
8. Upload your photograph, signature, thumb impression and required certificates.
9. Pay the ₹100 application fee, if applicable.
10. Review the application details and submit the form.
11. Download and print the submitted application form and fee receipt for future reference.Documents Required
