SSC JE Recruitment 2026: The Staff Selection Commission has released the notification for the Junior Engineer Examination 2026, offering 1,748 tentative vacancies in various Government of India departments and offices. The recruitment also includes the Scientific Assistant post in the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The SSC JE posts are Group ‘B’ posts under Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, with a pay scale of ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400.

SSC JE 2026 Exam Pattern
The examination will be conducted through Computer-Based Examinations in two papers.
Paper-I
Paper-I consists of:
General Intelligence & Reasoning
General Awareness
Relevant Engineering Subject
Paper-I is qualifying in nature, and normalized marks are used to shortlist candidates for Paper-II.
Paper-II
Paper-II focuses on the candidate’s relevant engineering/subject stream and carries 300 marks.
Only the normalized marks of Paper-II are used for determining final merit.
There is also negative marking:
Paper-I: 0.25 mark for each wrong answer
Paper-II: 1 mark for each wrong answer
Education Required:
SSC JE 2026 is mainly aimed at candidates with the required engineering qualifications in relevant disciplines. Depending on the post and department, the notification specifies qualifications such as Degree or Diploma in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and related engineering fields.
The recruitment covers different engineering streams, including:
Civil Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electronics/Telecommunication-related fields
Computer Science & Information Technology for applicable posts
Physics and related qualifications for Scientific Assistant in IMDCandidates must check the post-wise Essential Qualification because the required qualification and experience can differ between departments.
Importantly, the required educational qualification must have been acquired by the prescribed cut-off date.
SSC JE Age Limit
The age limit depends on the particular post. The notification includes posts with an upper age limit of 30 years as well as 32 years.
The crucial date for calculating age is 1 August 2026. Applicable age relaxation is provided to eligible reserved categories according to Government rules.

SSC JE Syllabus
For Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the standard of engineering questions is approximately at Diploma in Engineering level.
For Computer Science & IT, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Physics and Telecommunication, the standard is approximately at graduation level.
The Civil Engineering syllabus includes areas such as Engineering Mechanics, Structural Analysis, Construction Materials, Concrete Structures, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Environmental Engineering and Transportation Engineering.
Electrical Engineering covers topics including Electrical Fundamentals, AC Fundamentals, Electrical Machines, Power Generation and Distribution, Measurements, Electronics and Power Electronics.
Mechanical Engineering includes Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Machine Design, Thermal Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Manufacturing Engineering and Industrial Engineering.
Selection Process
The selection process involves Paper-I followed by Paper-II.
The minimum qualifying marks are:
UR: 30%
OBC/EWS: 25%
Other categories: 20%Paper-I is qualifying, while Paper-II performance and the candidate’s post/department preferences play a major role in final selection and allocation.
Candidates should be particularly careful while submitting post preferences because once submitted, the preferences are treated as final and irreversible.
SSC JE Application Fee
The application fee is ₹100.
Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from paying the fee.
Important Dates
SSC JE 2026 applications can be submitted from 2 September 2026 to 22 September 2026.
The last date for online fee payment is 23 September 2026. SSC has provided an application correction window from 28 September to 30 September 2026.
Paper-I is tentatively scheduled for October/November 2026, while Paper-II is tentatively scheduled for December 2026.
Important Note for BRO Posts
Candidates choosing Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) should be especially careful. BRO posts have additional physical, medical and Physical Efficiency Test requirements. The notification also states that only male candidates are eligible for BRO JE posts.
Candidates should therefore check the applicable physical and medical standards before selecting BRO posts in their preferences.
How to Apply for SSC JE 2026?
Eligible candidates must first complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website and then submit the SSC JE 2026 application online.
SSC has clarified that OTR created on the old SSC website will not be functional on the new website. Applications can be submitted through the SSC website or the mySSC mobile application.
Candidates should carefully verify their educational qualification, age, category details and post preferences before submitting the application.
