The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 (SSC CHSL 2026). The recruitment is being conducted for various Group C posts, including Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)/Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’ in different Ministries, Departments, Offices and other government organisations.
According to the notification, approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies are available. The final number of vacancies will be confirmed later after scrutiny and reporting by the concerned departments.

Education Required:
For LDC/JSA and most DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts, candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognised Board or University.
However, for DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC, and Ministry of Culture, candidates must have passed 12th Standard in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.
Candidates who are appearing for their Class 12 examination can also apply, but they must obtain the required qualification on or before 7 October 2026.
Age Limit
The age limit is 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026.
Candidates must have been born between 2 August 1999 and 1 August 2008, subject to applicable age relaxation.
Age relaxation includes:
SC/ST: 5 years
OBC: 3 years
PwBD: 10 years
PwBD + OBC: 13 years
PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years
Other relaxations are applicable to eligible Ex-Servicemen, Central Government employees and certain other categories as per government rules.
SSC CHSL Application Fee

The application fee is ₹100.
Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from paying the application fee.
The fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or eligible debit cards until 8 October 2026, 11:00 PM.
SSC CHSL 2026 Exam Pattern
The SSC CHSL Computer Based Examination will be conducted in two tiers: Tier-I and Tier-II.

There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer in Tier-I.
Tier-II Exam Pattern
Tier-II consists of four sections:
Mathematical Abilities
Reasoning and General Intelligence
English Language and Comprehension
General Awareness
Computer Knowledge Test
Skill Test/Typing Test as applicableSections I and II carry 180 marks each, while the Computer Knowledge Test carries 45 marks.
The Computer Knowledge Test and Skill/Typing Test are qualifying in nature, but candidates must qualify the applicable sections of Tier-II.
There is 1-mark negative marking for each wrong answer in Sections I, II and III of Tier-II.
SSC CHSL Typing Test and Skill Test
For LDC/JSA, candidates can choose either English or Hindi for the Typing Test.
English: 35 words per minute
Hindi: 30 words per minuteThe typing speed is assessed on a passage to be typed in 10 minutes.
For DEO posts, the required skill test speed varies according to the department. Certain DEO posts require 15,000 key depressions per hour, while other DEO posts require 8,000 key depressions per hour.
SSC CHSL Selection Process
The selection process involves:
Tier-I → Tier-II → Skill Test/Typing Test → Document Verification → Final Allocation
Candidates are shortlisted for Tier-II based on their performance in Tier-I, with normalized scores being used where applicable.
In Tier-II, candidates must qualify all applicable sections. The Computer Knowledge Test and Skill/Typing Test are qualifying in nature.
The final merit list is prepared based on performance in Tier-II Section-I and Section-II, subject to qualifying the required sections. Post/department preference also plays an important role in final allocation.
